Masonic temple of the Grand Lodge of Liberia
After freed American slaves colonized Liberia, Freemasons founded a lodge in Monrovia in 1867. It tended to restrict membership to those of Americo-Liberian descent and was very influential on politics: By the 1970s the majority of Liberia's high-ranking officials were Masons.
