Maluti mountains of Lesotho
The waters of the Maluti mountains have been ingeniously mastered with the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, featuring some of the highest dams in Africa and hydropower plants. The project's primary purpose is however to transfer water, the "white gold", through a 45 km long and a 37 km long transfer tunnels until South Africa and the industrial region of Johannesburg. Affected villages and grazing lands, environmental impacts, bribery, are sources of critics for this project among the costliest engineering projects in the world.
